Another application area where Solar Energy Systems are used extensively is boats. Solar energy systems on boats are generally used to charge batteries.

Batteries in boats are usually charged by starting the engine, but this method causes extra fuel wastage and environmental pollution during long stays. In addition, when the load is high, the operation of the engine does not provide the necessary energy to the batteries. The most convenient solution here is to charge the battery bank using solar panels.

Equipment Used in Solar Boat Applications:

• Solar Panel: The solar panel should be designed correctly since it is the generator of the system. While dimensioning the panel, the values ​​for the time when the daytime is the shortest (21 December) throughout the year should be taken and the system should be simulated according to the solar heating values ​​on this day. Most of the time, it is done in the largest panel selection in the system design. Although the need for electricity in boats generally gains importance in the summer months, choosing the wrong panel size will cause the system to not work efficiently in the winter months.

• Charge Regulator: The charge regulator is an electronic device that controls the current coming from the panel to the battery. It prevents the battery from being overcharged and discharged.
